How on Earth Does it Work?Despite what you may have heard, it's really not rocket science to get a site ranking well in Google! The search engines use a few fairly intuitive rules to determine whether a site should be pushed up the results list - it just takes time to learn all of the rules intimately, and then execute effectively. Here is a high level description which outlines the 3 most important parts of the Google search algorithm from a somewhat simplistic perspective: 1. Structure - your site needs to have been built in a "Search Engine Friendly" manner, before it is even possible for the site to be found by the search engines. There are a number of technical rules that must be adhered to. This is the basic foundation - Google needs to be able to index your site in order for it to appear in Google at all. Once the foundation is laid - the site must then appear to be authoritative. Content & links make a site appear this way. 2. Content - as a site matures, if it is maintained effectively, it will organically develop a large body of relevant content. Google recognises this as a sign of authority, and will rank it accordingly. I.e. If the site contains lots of good content, they must know what they're talking about! 3. Links - Google introduced the "Page Rank" concept - which is an indication of how many other sites link to a page. The theory is that a site will link to another site if it is considered to be relevant - which means that over time, an effective site should collect a large number of in-bound links. The more quality in-bound links, the higher the page rank, the more authoritative the site is considered. So What's the Trick?Well, the process outlined above, can take time. The trick is to be able to implement this process in the most efficient way possible: create a large body of content, then generate a mass of in-bound links (aka link building) in order to simulate the "organic" search engine ranking process. We can help businesses understand how to do this, and take a consultative approach to ensuring each of our unique clients have everything they need to make their site an extra-ordinary success in the search engines. Proof?Thankfully, it's pretty easy to determine whether a company is good at SEO: Is their own website, and their clients, ranked well for important key words in Google? These search results are for "all the web" searches on Google:
